„NUDE” special event: discussion with Marju Lauristin. Hosted by Brent Pere.

14th of November 19.00

We bring meaningful and exhibition-inspired conversations to Fotografiska.

Journalist Brent Pere will host a talk with social scientist and emeritus professor Marju Lauristin, they will tackle pressing topics such as power hierarchies, patriarchy, stereotypes, and the various roles of women in society.

In Estonia, it has been that way since ancient times—women are the ones who paddle along the river, singing as they row. Meanwhile, men are off fighting, grumbling in some corner, or doing foolish things. In many ways, we have a culture that could be called a matriarchy. Even with Hasso's looms, we immediately imagine women behind them. – Marju Lauristin, Müürileht.

Exhibition „NUDE”

Autumn at Fotografiska begins with a powerful start – on September 13th, the exhibition 'NUDE' opens its doors, showcasing the work of 32 female artists exploring the theme of the nude body. Among them are Estonian artistst Cloe Jancis and Marlen Kärema.

In addition to female identity, the exhibition brings together all kinds of bodies and gender identities from across the broad spectrum of society and its fringes. Voices from sex workers, BDSM practitioners, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community are also represented. Controversial social issues unfold before the audience's eyes in their raw and unembellished reality, accompanied by the burden carried by the gendered gaze. The nude body becomes a canvas for creativity, with contemporary perspectives, taboos, and society in all its abundance serving as the colors.
