Fotografiska Fashion Focus
On Friday, February 2nd, Fotografiska will host the opening party of the exhibition "The Lightness of Being" by the most iconic fashion photographer of our time, Peter Lindbergh. As the destination for inspiring events, we are exclusively opening our doors on this special occasion, giving you the opportunity to get closer to Lindbergh's art than anyone else and much earlier.
On the opening night of the exhibition, there will be a performative conversation in the exhibition hall, diving into the artist's creative process and unveiling his tremendous influence on the fashion photography industry. Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions to the artist's son, Benjamin Lindbergh. The musical entertainment for the evening will be provided by the acclaimed Trad Attack drummer, Tõnu Tubli. The guests will be captured on film by the talented young photographer Mari Makarov.
"The Lightness of Being" is curated by the Peter Lindbergh Foundation, represented by Benjamin Lindbergh and Thoai Niradeth, in collaboration with Lisa Giomar Hydén, the exhibitions director of Fotografiska Stockholm.
About the artist
Peter Lindbergh (1944–2019) was a German fashion photographer and filmmaker. He grew up in Germany but lived in Paris for decades and often worked in various fashion capitals. Although he also studied art, he decided to pursue photography in the late 1970s, which became his calling. His photographs have influenced several generations of photographers, designers, and other creatives.
Lindbergh's work in the 1990s marks the beginning of an era that still resonates today – it was a time of supermodels and a kind of timeless era when femininity and masculinity intertwined, often in white shirts.
Many say it was Lindbergh's photos that launched the careers of supermodels like Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington.
