Exhibition „NUDE” opening: special event "Know the words!" for teachers

Fotografiska's Fall Kicks Off with a Powerful Start

On September 13th, Fotografiska will open its doors to the exhibition "NUDE," which brings together the perspectives of 32 contemporary female artists on the naked body.

But before the exhibition officially opens, we invite teachers to get a sneak peek. For this purpose, we've created a special event titled "Know the Words!" where teachers can explore the new exhibition and learn about Fotografiska's educational program. This event will provide insights on how to bring world-class photographic art closer to students and add unique experiences to classroom lessons.

The event also offers an overview of vocabulary related to sexuality and gender identity: What does it mean to be queer? What is transphobia? And why is body positivity important? Nele Laos, co-founder of Feministeerium, will give a comprehensive overview of modern terminology and introduce the abundant beauty within society.

The event will conclude with a presentation by Brazilian artist Angélica Dass, who is part of the "NUDE" exhibition with her powerful photo projection "Humanæ." She will introduce teachers to her mission-driven work with schools, raising awareness of our similarities as humans, regardless of background or appearance.

Educational Program

When planning field trips, it's good to keep in mind that Fotografiska's exhibitions support all social sciences, such as social studies, human studies, art, music, geography, and history.

However, we like to think outside the box and promise that our exhibitions can also create great connections with other subjects, offering exciting opportunities to broaden young people's worldviews.

The exhibition "In Bloom" (until October 27th) offers biology teachers a wonderful way to enrich their lessons. The exhibition "NUDE" (starting September 13th) provides multifaceted material for discussions on gender roles, stereotypes, and equality, ideal for human studies teachers.

Feministeerium & Nele Laos

The Feministeerium glossary is a guide that helps to understand the invisible framework of the exhibition while also improving one's vocabulary. Nele Laos, co-founder of the online publication Feministeerium, recently explored young Estonians' perceptions of sexual consent during her sociology master's studies. She has long organised feminist events, including producing the sexual education youth play "How to Say Yes?", initiating the Tallinn Feminist Forum, and leading the "Solidarity Women's Day" campaign.

"NUDE" Exhibition

Throughout history, the portrayal of the naked body in art has remained largely unchanged—reflecting the beauty ideals of the era, often chosen and depicted by men, with a male audience in mind. But what if we changed that narrative? What if we started from the beginning and freed the body from the biased chains of history? What would this new, contemporary nude look like, and what would it say about today's society?

Angélica Dass

Angélica Dass (born 1979) is a Brazilian photographer known for creating portraits of diverse individuals from around the world. Her photos represent a wide range of age groups, skin colors, and personal backgrounds. The artist's goal is to invite viewers to recognise the similarities between people, despite individual differences.
