Fotografiska opens Latvian photographer Inta Ruka’s exhibition “Places Called Home.” Between 1983 and 2008, Ruka photographed people across Latvia in their homes, yards, and streets, returning repeatedly to build trust and capture moments of everyday life. The resulting images go beyond documentary, reflecting place, relationships, and a sense of belonging.

The exhibition features over 80 photographs from two series, creating a quiet but powerful narrative of Latvia in transition. Internationally curated, it premieres in Tallinn; one series, “My Country’s People,” represented Latvia at the 1999 Venice Biennale.

Opening Tour 14 March, 13:00

Join artist Inta Ruka and award-winning Swedish director Maud Nycander, whose film The Photographer from Riga (2009) is part of the exhibition. Curator Maarja Loorents will guide the tour, discussing the exhibition’s creation, Ruka’s process, and her encounters with the people she photographed over decades.
