Fotografiska presents “Places Called Home”, a new exhibition by Latvian photographer Inta Ruka.

Between 1983 and 2008, Ruka photographed people across Latvia in their homes, yards and streets. Spaces where everyday life unfolds. Returning to the same individuals over time, she worked slowly, allowing trust to grow. The result is more than documentary photography: it is a portrait of place, relationships and belonging.

The exhibition brings together over 80 works from two series, forming a quiet yet powerful narrative of Latvia in transition. Internationally curated, the world premiere takes place in Tallinn. One of the series, “My Country’s People,” represented Latvia at the 1999 Venice Biennale.

Opening Night – 13 March

18:30 – Gathering in the 3rd-floor exhibition hall
18:45 – Screening of The Road’s End (2013) by Swedish director Maud Nycander, introduced by the filmmaker
20:15 – Exhibition tour with Inta Ruka and Maud Nycander, joined by curator Jessica Jarl

The film (58 min, Latvian with English subtitles) follows Daina, who lives in remote eastern Latvia near the Russian border, reflecting on resilience, loss and love.
